What is the difference between AERC endurance and FEI endurance?
- AERC is the governing body for endurance in America and the motto is "To Finish is to Win." FEI is the international governing body and more geared toward racing and placing.
Can I do endurance?
- Yes!
Can my horse do endurance?
- Yes, assuming it is:
- At least 4 years old for LD's and 5 for races of 50+ miles (though most experienced riders recommend waiting until horses are 5-6 before starting LD's and endurance)
- Healthy and sound
- Enjoys going down the trail for miles at a decent speed (usually a medium trot)
What breeds of horses typically do endurance?
- All of them, though Arabians are most common due to their natural ability.
How can I learn more?

- Volunteer at a ride or to crew.
